Mauritius' curry will get you carried away

Mauritius is a country that is culturally diverse it's hard to believe that in a small island nation there is so much to see and do. If you like curry, you will like Mauritius. While they speak a variety of languages from Mauritian Creole to French and other Indian dialects, all you need to learn is ask for "carri" (spicy herb onion sauce that's cooked with almost everything). You'll be good to go.

The best time to visit Mauritius is the winter season, which is from July to September. Winter is off peak season for many travelers in the world, but not in this beautiful country. That being said, there are many things to do during your visit.

  • Consider playing the part of the lazy tourist by hanging out at Bella Mare. It literally means pretty beach.
  • In Port Louis, you can haggle and look for the best-priced souvenirs and other items local to Mauritius.
  • If you're a nature lover, the best place to exercise your hiking feet is the Black River Gorges National Park.

There is one thing you might want to consider while visiting off peak season at Mauritius. If you've never tried scuba diving before, you might be in for a treat. Here, it is said that more and more tourists are taking to undersea walking. This allows tourists to check out the underwater life and feed the fish while wearing helmets and heavy boots, breathing oxygen from a long pipe extending to the surface of the water, just as a snorkeler would. So it's kind of a fun variation of underwater snorkeling, in a sense, possibly more exciting for some.
